A Picture Of One Our Clients Perfectly Cut turf

Mowing Your Lawn

Most problems are from not mowing at the proper height and not keeping the blades sharpened. We feel the best height would be at about 4.5 to 5 inches.

Small root systems leave your lawn more vulnerable to drought, insects, and invasive weeds. When your turf reaches 4.5 inches, if you are maintaining at 3-inches, limit how many times you do per month in the fall as growth slows. Do not blow or leave clippings where they will wash into streets or sewer drains and end up polluting our waterways.

Keep your blades sharp. When they become dull, it tears the grass instead of trimming it cleanly. The wounds cause it to lose more water, increase irrigation needs or moisture stress, and leave the plants more vulnerable to disease.

The Benefits of Aeration

Is your neighbour's grass greener than yours? It could be because the soil is too compacted to the point where your roots are not getting enough oxygen. Aeration should be performed once a year, preferably in the fall. When the dirt is so compact, it makes it easier for bugs to hide and populate. Making holes in your soil will provide air for your roots to gather enough oxygen to grow stronger and longer roots resulting in a much fuller and greener turf.

When you step on, mow, or allow your children to play in the yard, your soil becomes a little more compact. Aeration will prevent or help several problems, including compaction and thatch build-up. It opens passageways in the ground, allowing better air, water, and nutrient movement. We are offering affordable aerating services to bring it back to life.

Sod Installation

Patches could result from various issues such as fungal diseases, grub damage, animals or even excessive heat/drought. Most repairs can be done by adding top-dressing of dirt and seed, and we will rake the affected areas and fill them. However, if the damage is too extensive, sodding is another option for resurfacing. Spring and early Autumn are the ideal times to lay down sod, and you'll avoid the extreme heat of the summer months.

Before putting down the turf, tilling will help to prepare the terrain by removing any undesired roots. Once we till the ground, it'll be raked and graded, leaving a levelled surface to work. We make sure to use the best rolls from the farm and avoid over compacting the soil. Laying down the rolls, we line up the edges tightly without overlapping for a seamless finish. It's essential to limit traffic on it to allow it to set. Water it regularly without creating massive puddles and wait for a while before that first cut!
